Condiments.
What's your favourite condiment?
|
Is it worth waiting for a poll to appear, or should I answer now?
|
Poll is here. By the way:
condiment: seasoning or relish to add to food at table. Not to be confused with sauces, and mayonnaise isn't a condiment. |
Ooh. That depends on whom you ask. But I agree with you.
What about chutney? Where would you class that? |
I'm reliably informed that mayo is a salad additive!
Chutney is a sauce? |
Is it? Is it really a sauce?. There are some sauces on the list. I'm intrigued, because if chutneys are condiments then I'm voting for mango and ginger chutney. If not then I'll go for coarse-ground black pepper. It's terribly important, you see.
|
It's certainly a complicated business, as condiments and sauces are usually lumped together.
And I'm reliably informed that chutney is not a sauce but a category of its own. So we have condiments, sauces and chutney. |
Wow. So a seperate chutney poll would be a valid move. Mmmm.
OK then. I say coarse-ground black pepper is the finest condiment available under the current guidelines. |

Now, forgive my ignorance, but if Chutney is Chutney, is Jam still Jam, or is Jam a type of Chutney?
I voted for mint, although vinegar and pepper are honourable runners-up. |
i like chutney, never really thouight of it as a jam though, love the usual, salt pepper ect
|
i wouldnt class salt and pepper as a condiment though. they are just basics that go with all meals. i do like them all to be honest, but recently i have been eating a lot of hp fruit sauce.

Jam is a conserve. |
whats royal jelly then?
|

Royal jelly is a type of bee secretion that aids in the development of immature or young bees. |
so its not marmalade without the bits then? why dont people call marmalade orange jam?
|
I voted for mustard. I was surprised that it got a lot of votes. Any type of mustard is good. It's nice to have variety. Not really sure what American mustard is all about but it's ok. There's nothing like the the rush through the sinuses that a good English mustard gives you when you put a little bit too much on your sandwich.
|
too much mustard gets up yor nose huh.
i like the really strog kinds of mustard and the whole grain stuff. is this like fight club where his house is full of condiments but no actual food? |
Quote:
Strictly speaking you could call marmalade orange jam. All marmalade is, is jam made with citrus fruit. Originally, the Portuguese made marmalade from quince - the Portuguese word "marmelada" refers to "quince jam." |
...various spicy mustards
sauces: hot sauces, salsas and steak sauces... salad dressings: creamy italian mixed with red wine vinaigrette, creamy balsamic |
