Worst Gimmik bands?
 

Let's talk about gimmick bands!!! Two I especially hate: Scissor Sisters and the Dresden Dolls. whaddaya think, fella's and fellass'?

I love both those bands. What's the gimmick? Good songs? You people are so fucking indie I wonder how you live.

The Scissor sisters are pure shit.

Scissors Sister suck, but then again haven't paid any attention to it.

Dresen Dolls are annoying and unlistenable because of the vocals and their insufferable cutesiness. Their schtick factor is merely icing on the cake for me. It's first and foremost their music that I find so abrasive.

Har Mar Superstar is terrible. I can't even look at him.

Anything that's pre-planned can be looked at as a gimmick, even good bands. The Beatles and thier mod look, Ramones naming themselves Ramones. The White Stripes, hasn't stopped either of these bands from having legions of fans who swear they are the future of rock and roll.

dresden dolls have a song named "dirty business" i'm kind of fond of. otherwise, eh.

led fucking zeppelin are who i'm sick of. every song is about hobbits.

I could never get into Led Zeppelin.

i really like "over the hills and far away" for the outro, but that's it. i can't get into anything else.

How about this: Best gimmick bands?

It produces a much shorter list.

Residents

Devo and the Residents both had too much true originality and substance to be true Gimmick Bands; their music stands alone apart from the image and presentation and has a lingering influence on its own merits.

Fair enough they're a good band, but hello? Not gimmicky?

I didn't say they weren't gimmicky. They are.
All I meant was that for me to write off a schtick band as a MERE schtick band, the schtick has to be the main thrust of their existence, with the music playing second fiddle to an attention-getting presentation style.
The Residents and Devo both had too much of a fully fleshed-out aesthetic going on to be written off as mere schtick bands in my mind. That's all I meant.

Man...or ASTROman? were a gimmick band, but a great one.

Seen blood. There was this excellent MOAM show a few years ago with one of them running across stage with a TV on his head on fire. Fucking excellent. I suppose you could throw most decent Black/ Death/ Doom metal into the category of 'better than their gimmick'.
