A lot of the reissues are for the audiophile market.

There was another thread on this a while ago you might like to peruse. Interesting to see if anyone's got any new thoughts here though.

never heard of the loudness war, interesting to find out it was a snowball effect comming from the publicity of music

it has all but disappeared now, people want more dynamic range again. maybe the mp3 generation has finally wised up.
