Thurston Moore - Flipped Out Bride
just checked out my Volcanic Tongue Update and came across this. never heard of it before, thought I should share:
Thurston Moore Flipped Out Bride Blossoming Noise Pyg03Vin LP £14.99 Hand-numbered edition of 500 copies on blue marbled vinyl with cover art from Kim Gordon, Flipped Out Bride is a “solo guitar drone” record from Thurston with arcing dissolves of sad rainbow tone fading into triumphal, hallucinated melodies and smears of sheet metal song. B-side gets into some great de-tuned subterranean clank and extended stasis before dropping into ratchets of rapid-fire machine gun tone. Very beautiful. Already completely sold-out at source. http://www.volcanictongue.com edit: found mp3 sample at blossoming noise website: http://www.blossomingnoise.com/samples/lanolin.mp3 |
would love to hear this although the entry fee is somewhat steep.. the description above brings to mind Piece for Yvonne Rainer and Lydia' Moth/Not Me... anyone heard this before? if I had more cash at the moment I would definitely pick it up...
|
It certainly is a gorgeous aural orgy of sound... I can't better Mr Keenan's eloquent solicitation so I'll leave it at that... In answer to your speculation... this piece sounds very different to the Lydia Moth/Not Me 10''... no drums you see and T is off on a different vibe. As for the other piece that you mentioned I haven't heard it so I can't compare... this release isn't for the casual fan... you have to fully believe to get this one. Also the sleeve and marbled vinyl makes my prostrate gland tingle...

nice, will check it out if it hasnt sold out already.

Toxic Johnny says it well i think, finally spun my copy last night and it seems to be somewhere between the drone described on the cover and the more skree shit we all know and love. its kind of like the milder parts between the crazy parts when he plays live. certainly for the converted. The glossy full colour 11x17 repro of the cover by Kim included is really nice; visitors to Fort Jim may find that i've framed it in the neat future.

ok, that shit's getting ordered...
|
it's sold out... fuck...

i just got my copy in a few hours ago. good stuff so far.

It's really worth checking out if you can get your hands on it. I read that it's the first part of a trilogy inspired by different forms of poetry.. although somebody may have already said that, so apologies if I haven't read something correctly:-P
|
i thought i had it, but i then got an email from the store i purchased it from saying nope, all gone... sheeyat....
i spoke to DK and he said VT might be acquiring some more copies direct from T in the coming weeks so I just need to keep my eyes peeled on the site... |

::RUMOR CONTROL
Flipped Out Bride was recorded exclusively by Thurston for Blossoming Noise in '06 and is the first in a series of TM solo records featuring Kim Gordon's artwork. http://www.blossomingnoise.com/flippedoutbride.html To Live and Shave in L.A.'s Noon And Eternity was recorded live in December of 2004 at Sonic Youth's Echo Canyon, Thurston Moore was there for the recording & plays on the album (not sampled). This is by far one of my favorite releases of 2006 - amazing and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Check it out!!!
