Alt guitar tunings warp necks?
So, I'm about to buy a new Jazzmaster, but I'm a little worried because I like to mess with different tunings and I'm worried that I might warp the neck of the guitar - is this a possibility?
PS. Ive been playing for ages but this has never been a prob before cos all my guitars to date have been less than stellar. |
no.

Yes, which is one great reason to use the heavier guitars (like the Jazzmaster) if you're gonna use very heavy strings tuned high.
|
i wish they warped necks

The tighter the string tension, the more chance the neck will bow.
If you use string gauges that reach the notes properly (thinner strings for higher notes, thicker for lower etc) there's less of a chance. |
Is it also true that it can screw up the neck if you leave strings off for too long?

I've heard that too, but I've also heard that if you store guitars for long periods of time, you should detune the strings. Not all the way though I assume. It probably just depends on the quality of the neck. |
I have a Jazzmaster. This has never happened to me.

If each time before you play you rub the neck up and down along your fanny crack it will prevent the warping.

I thought the pitch of the standard tuning wraps necks....

yeah, i'd like to wrap your neck with a guitar 'til it bleeds. but seriously, key factors for proper neck bow: 1. string gauge/tuning 2. truss rod adjustment 3. string height off neck/frets 4. (applicable for stratocaster style guitars w/ tremelo bridges) tremelo spring and tension. |

Ha, you little fucking numbnuts! Still saw about me PROVING that nas is better than big D: ![]() |
dude, just a just your neck. you probably have that in a manual somewhere, how to do it....
it increases with high tension. mostly you just need to ajust the trussrod if you get thicker strings... |
there are alot of useful online sources on the internet on "adjusting the intonation for guitar" just do a search on this phrase and you'll find the answers to your questions.
its not that hard... |
Yeah I was talking to someone about that - it just seems like a pro job (i.e. I might fuck up my guitar) and also a lot of hassle. Im just gonna buy a cheapo second guitar and do what I want with it. Dont wanna mess up my shiny new guitar (Ibanez RG1579 prestige: floating bridges suck btw).
|
yeah id definately suggest that you have your good guitar, you play and practice on it and buy a cheap 20 bucks guitar and fuck with it as much as you can
