Guitar Neck Question?
I have strat body lotus guitar that I got real cheap years ago. Would it be worth it to put a real strat neck on it? Is that hard to do?
I would assume it would play a little better and hopefully sound better too. Then, my next step would probably be putting better pick ups in it. I really don't work on guitars. Normally I just take them in if there is a problem, but lately I have been trying to be more handy on guitar issues. I am just curious if other people have done something like that and if the results were worth it. |
It's not terribly hard, but it's not terribly worth it either. Generally, the guitar is calibrated for the neck that comes with it. You can change necks, but if you don't know what you're doing, sorting the intonation (etc) can be an absolute bugger. Strat necks are lovely, but to my mind, a good player is a good player whatever the guitar. So, if you can't play for shit on your current neck, no other neck is going to help.
I would say it's probably best to start with the pick-ups before you do anything else, as they'll affect the sound more than anything else. Be careful that any new pickups you buy don't have feedback reduction-type technology. Very, very annoying. Basically, unless you're super attached to the guitar (emotionally) I would say wait a while until you can afford a new guitar, rather than endlessly trying to make the one you have better. |

I have a guitar that's neck is horrifically bent after years of.. ..playing. It's almost impossible to play now. I would like to think of myself as an averagely decent player.. |
Well, we'll call your neck the exception that proves the rule then, shall we?

dont bother man, buy a real strat if you love them so much

It is my first guitar so I am sentimental towards it. I am just trying to improve it a little for when I occassionally play it. I will probably just swap out the pick ups. You are probably right about the neck.
Thanks for the advice. |
