Reccomend Me Some Yo La Tengo
I've heard a few random songs i really liked like "sugarcube", "from a motel 6", "pass the hatchet", "double dare".I dont know which record to get though.Which record of theirs is their most sonic-youth like?
|
The recent one is good.
I really really like I Can Hear the Heart Beat as One or whatever it's called. After that I'd say Electro-purr-o. For a different kind of YLT, after listening to those, try And then nothing turned itself.... A very quiet album, though. |
That one,you know, the one with the dark sleeve and with all those tracks?Do you know that one?Yes go,get it.
|
The dark one with the guy looking up into the light in his driveway?
That's And nothing.... |
I can hear the heart beating as one is the only one of theirs I got into.
|
A great best-of got released in 2005, it's called Prisoners of Love, contains 2 CDs and costs, in France, around $12... You should buy it
|
get either May I Sing With Me, Painful, or Electr-o-Pura for their most sonic youth-esque (at least their most overdrive/feedback influenced for the early ninties) albums. all of YLT's material is fantastic though.
|
Get their new one, "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass"
Its really good and one of their more eclectic albums. Other great YLT albums: I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One Painful Electr-o-Pura |
Oh, yeah. I forgot about Painful. Ditto the rec. ^
|
I'd say if you don't want to be disappointed, get Electr -o -pura or I can...as one.
The latest release is uneven, a few great songs (pass the hatchet...), and notable failures (the wanna be Fiery Furnace 'Hey Mr Tough'). |
And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out
May I Sing With Me Summer Sun Painful These are my favorites. |

Thats right on. |
All the reccomendations above look good, and if your looking for sonic youthesque, stear clear of fakebook.

Electro Purra probably appeals most to SY fans who want more swirly guitars, though the singing is much more singing than SY. It's also the most overtly VU influenced, which is saying a lot. That said, it's probably my favorite for the perfect poppiness of it all, and it represents the exact mid-point of the band before they got so damn mellow, but after they discovered harmony.
Summer Sun is my favorite of the mellower ones (all of which I like), and the new one is pretty damn good too. |
good recommendations all, but you guys forgot painful
i also like summer sun-- little eyes is a great fucking tune |
