Toilet & Bowels 12.22.2006 10:49 AM

i know how you feel, i've wanted to start a band for as long as i can remember but each attempt i've made never works out

porkmarras 12.22.2006 10:52 AM

Why is that?

I'm looking for some decent players to form a band.

So far, I've avoided and denied offers from talent-lacking or unimaginative classmates, old and new, who seem to want to form a typical run-of-the-mill indierock band. I want to be in a band where the members have an interesting idea or thoughtrack on the style of the band, and some talent in the respective instruments wouldn't be bad either.

I'm Grade 7-8, can play a range of styles, namely metal and jazz. If anyone's looking for a bassist, and who lives in Hampshire or nearabouts, send me a PM. :)

move to belgium, become Heavium's drummer.

;)

i can't find a DECENT drummer that isn't into fucking metallica or under 40.

I was labelling the styles I can play. Obviously, versatility means a lot. Most of the bands out there consist of playing Razorlight, or Kooks-esque music, where all the bassist does is play single notes. You don't need to even play bass very well to be able to get yourself going with the bass in that genre I singled out.

EDIT - Also, one who could play jazz styles on the bass effectively, they can apply that to other styles, which is how music evolved at the end of the day. Same goes with metal I suppose.

king_buzzo 12.22.2006 11:57 AM

yes. they want to play real songs...

most of the people here just form bands to be popular

I wish I had the hardware necessary for that.

That's an interesting point in that i find that it's something that puts me off from playing with a lot of people apart from the other cliche of 'we're in a band so let's behave like we're in one' routine that goes with playing music with most folks.I have also serious problems with people who 'very obviously' dress like they play a certain type of music instead of craving for a visual aspect that has more to do with the 'music' they play rather than the 'attidute' that they crave so much.Perhaps i just get bored quickly when it comes to dealing with 'music types'.

jon boy 12.22.2006 12:04 PM

i find band dynamics too difficult to deal with so i prefer to play on my own or in collaberation with other people. i find that sometimes creative problems arrise from playing in bands and it is hard to motivate everyone.

Glice 12.22.2006 01:38 PM

I would happily do something musical with Porkie and T&B (and Jon Boy, if he fancies it) at some point in the new year. I'm up in London doing some things with some people sporadically in the new year, so I'll be in touch.

Edit: With due deference to those who've already expressed interests in being in bands, I tend to pick musical enterprises based on a person's taste in music rather than their talent/ instrument.

Aww. Don't cry.

have you checked the pinboard outside Andy's Guitars?

king_buzzo 12.22.2006 04:50 PM
