Oren Ambarchi.

I've been listening to a compilation called "Guitars Underessed" which includes a wonderful track called s.t.a.c.t.e.3.b.e.d.i.t. by Oren Ambarchi. I've heard of him before, but this is the first time that I've actually heard his music.

Can anyone recommend any album by him that I should check out? I'm looking for relatively ambient stuff, along the lines of Rafael Toral and Keith Fullerton Whitman.

I second this request... I haven't heard anything by him yet but I'll be seeing him later this month as part of the Burial Chamber Trio (with Greg Anderson and Attila Csihar)

i only have "grapes from the estate" and i really like it... most of the time it feels like there is not much happening - just a few sustained notes (guitar notes, although they often do not sound like guitars because of the way they are processed), repetitive patterns, a few crackling or skipping sounds, maybe some slight noise in the background, sometimes a little percussion - but it sounds lovely... it's ambient, but occasionally there is a definite clear melody and he builds on that... if you find a site that has sound excerpts from the album, you could have a good idea of whether you would like it or not.

i was planning to get "triste" next... or another one, if someone gives on this thread recommendations...

(his music is comparable in many ways to the music of fennesz - and as far as i can tell, to rafael toral's and keith fullerton whitman's, which i am much less familiar with - but at the same time definitely different, i think, he has a distinct sound. then again, i only know one record by him)

Oren Ambarchi is one of my alltime favourite ambient artists. Saw him in 2003 in my hometown and it was honestly one of the most freaking wonderful gigs I've ever been to. Awesome awesome textured sound, huge live guitar processing and great atmosphere.

I heard insulation, suspension and grapes from the estate, out of which I guess the best one is insulation, cause it's not that mellow (as o o o was stating), but rather more diverse and harsh.

I've followed o o o's example and ordered "grapes from the estate", but I suspect that won't be the last Oren Ambachi CD that I'll buy.

i have some of his music scattered on a few compilations but i don't know much about him.

well, i've the touch records releases : insulation, suspension and grapes from the estate and if you're looking for ambient stuff like you said, in my humble opinion suspension is the best one.

I have no doubt that I'll get suspension some time, but grapes from the estate was cheaper, so I figured I'd go with that as a first purchase.

Oren used to teach at my University (University of Western Sydney). The only album I've got is Suspension which is great.

triste is one of my all time favorite albums actually.
