That news article has the CCTV footage of the train derailing. Horrible. I cannot imagine being inside one of those rail cars as the shit goes haywire.

Hear about this on the way home from work this morning......so sad!

Over 75 people killed that they know. Over 130 injured. It must have been so insane.

Damn....that footage is pretty intense. Terrible thing to see.

That train was going haul-ass. According to Spanish authorities it may have been way above it's speed limit.

Spain is a big country but why do I always worry that the people I know who live in Spain may have been on the train? I guess that's human nature.

It is not a graphic video, in that you can see carnage, but it is violent and you can easily imagine the terror one would feel. Take care Spanish SY fanaticos

I was really worried about a friend who was travelling home yesterday and has family in the area. I am relieved to find out him and his wife are safe. Awful tragedy.

The driver's being investigated by police. From what I'm reading in the papers he's a bit of a speed freak:

Garzón's position was compromised by the emergence of a photograph that he posted to his Facebook page showing his speedometer at 200km/h. It was not clear if, when the photograph was taken, he was on a stretch of the network where high speeds were permitted.

It nevertheless surprised Garzón's friends. One wrote: "You're going like the bloody clappers, lad. Brake." The driver replied: "I'm at the limit. I can't go faster, otherwise they'll fine me."

turns out the dude was not only speeding, he was also on the phone?? Sighs.

Yeah, its called a news cycle. There are horrifying train wrecks all the time, but when one captures the news cycle suddenly they ALL do. Plus, when there is even a slight up-tick in occurrences, it is natural for the human mind (a) to take increasing notice and (b) search of a pattern as pattern-seeking animals.

There's no such thing as coincidences.
