Teen shot dead in WA High School
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16453451/
My heart skipped a beat when I heard about this. One of my close friends goes to a school in the same district. On the first day back at school too. The world is sad. |
when a white kid in small town america kills some kids in his school it makes international news. when a street kid in south central kills some kids across the street from the school, it doesn't even make local tv ( this tends to happen more often then you'd think, the shootings that is)
|
well it seems a little exaggerated that it wouldn't even make local news, but i don't know LA news so i don't know, here in the DC area the news every night is a murder but it's so common place
a few weeks ago the headline was that over a week went by when there were no reported murders in the district and we want to talk shootings, the 7 New Orleans policemen charged with murder in the aftermath of the hurricane, were accused by Rev Al Sharpton of being racist, but Al seems to forget that 4 of the 7 cops are black, so unless they self-hating black men, that ain't it in this murder case i think even more then racism in this country , class-ism is a bigger problem, you mention the top story, the thing is sure they are white, but they are also most likely from a middle-class family or better, whereas the lower class is ignored or the ridicule of the rest of the population |
Tacoma is not 'small town america'. It is not Samnang Kok's fault he doesn't live in south central. Samnang Kok doesn't sound like a middle-class white kid's name either. Shootings are shootings, no matter where or who they happen to.
I don't think there is a special new room where journalists sit and decide what stories they cover depending on race and class. If it's shocking, journalists are all over it. Street shootings are, sadly, commonplace, and not particularly shocking anymore. A shooting in a school however, is, as it's not south central- it's a place of education, more or less. This is why the media is all over it. At the end of the day, media coverage doesn't really matter. As I said, shootings are sad no matter what. |
again? man that shit isn't news anymore.
and HELL YES, finally someone on this board makes sense-- pantophobia re: the class system. kurt vonnegut had a good sense about that too. |
shit, that sucks,
Rest in Peace |
another good reason to get rid of guns.
|
u cant get rid of guns, get rid of guns and we will have sticks..but then we will make the sticks throw them selves, then they become smaller and compact, and we have guns.
I thought W.A was Western Australia :P |
