wow. |
wow, indeed. rhys chatham is performing the guitar trio the next night for FREE in new haven (at a place called BAR), but not with that lineup of All-Stars.
|
OM didn't have any tickets yet when I stopped by over the weekend, they said the promoter hadnt asked them permission either.
|
cool, i'd love to see this... however me and my band are playing in Rhys's Guitar Trio (performing his 1977 piece 'Guitar Trio', as he is playing and conducting with us) on Feb 1st. as he is touring in some select cities... i'm pretty honored that he asked us!
|
^That's pretty cool, man......nice job.

I haven't. Maybe I'll stop by tonite on my way to Issue Project Room. Thanks for the heads up. Rhys has a lot of guts doing a tour in the midwest in the winter. http://www.myspace.com/rhyschatham I didn't realize hearing the Ramones inspired Guitar Trio. who would have guessed! |
That's a pretty scary photo on the myspace page - he looks remarkably like Erasure's Vince Clarke!
Ignoring that for a moment, I'd be interested to know if there are CDs on sale at the show, and, if so, what. There are supposed to be a few new releases (as opposed to last year's re-releases) on Table of the Elements this year. |
I picked up a ticket yesterday, I overheard the manager say they still have a bunch if anyone needs one...
|
Woah. That's the best line up I've seen all year. Neptune, USAISAMONSTER, SY, Rhys Chatham...couldn't be any better, especially since most of them are playing together. I'm going to miss seeing Rhys Chatham this month becuase of school :(

Yeah I hope so too... though as I understand it, this short tour is being recorded for the Table of the Elements label, I think one of the plans is to document each show, and then some sort of the recording segment from each performance is to appear on a future cd release on the label. I'm not completely sure if this is the case, as this is the information that was relayed to me... we'll see... my band was rehearsing the 'Guitar Trio' piece last weekend its rather straight forward, there is alot of subtle things happeneing around the variation of the repeating E chord (starts with one guitar playing the open E string riff, then into the E chord riff, then playing the e chord and allowing the open high strings to bleed into the riff) one guitar plays a lead like rhthym another plays a solid consistent rhthym that is slightly different than the lead creating a nice weird multi-layered effect. kinda weird and refreshing to play in standard tuning again after not playing in it for so long. |
