Other than the fact that you have to access it from the Wii Menu, you are right, there is no real difference.
To be quite honest, I've always felt The Day Gaming Died was the day SEGA announced not only the discontinuation of the Dreamcast but of their entire hardware line, period. Think about it; it's been downhill ever since: overhyped consoles (PS2), oversized consoles (Xbox), undersupported consoles (Gamecube), underdeveloped consoles (Xbox 360), overpriced consoles (PS3, originally), underpowered consoles (Wii) , and let's not even get into the hard times Sonic the Hedgehog's been going through...
