Well as long as you stopped, technically you should be fine. Especially if they're getting upset about stuff that happened after. But I don't know what they're like; they sound like the kind of people that would give false testimony because they just assume you're involved. Especially with the police apparently having no clue what's going on. I doubt it will get nearly as far as they're saying, so I wouldn't worry about it yet, but don't get involved anymore.
