On September 25, 2010, Giraldo overdosed on prescription medication. After he failed to appear for a scheduled performance, he was found in his New Jersey hotel room and rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He died as a result of complications from the overdose four days later on September 29, with his family by his side.
