Well, the calm-noise patterns are quite obvious indeed*, but there's sooo much going on in those distorted parts that I wouldn't say they are predictable. Devil's in the details.
It's far from just high volume fuzz (?), and I do think they properly "mastered" this kind of stuff only later on in their career rather than in the first bunch of releases.
I get your point btw.
Just for the record, I do not intend to "convince" people about some overlooked goodies/overall quality in mogwai's latest output, I just do find the (legitimate) critiques a bit superficial (the "personal reasons" are excluded heh), but perhaps it's because people posting them don't want to waste too much time typing about a band they're not that interested in lately, ha ha .

I'm not sure I get what you mean in your last post, GD, but it seems to have more to do with the attitude of a band/artist than with their music.

speaking of mogwai: they always seemed to not take too seriously what they do, hell, in italy they started gigs with the national football team jerseys and "j'amme a lavurà" as background music while walking onto the stage.

speaking in general:

I guess a debate on the "enjoyability of music produced by cunts" would deserve a proper thread.
I said somewhere else that, luckily, I manage to enjoy "the music" without caring much about "the artist". If "the artist" is an interesting individual (to my eyes), better yet. If he's a cunt (and not of the good kind of cuntestry) I usually just don't care and at all and stick to the music. Could be derived also by the fact that I have not too much time to spend reading interviews etc, so I tend to form a rather non-in-depth opinion on the artists, unless I'm really interested for some reason. But even when I form a bad opinion on "the person" I still can enjoy "the music" with no particular qualms.

whuwh, say hello to mr.Off Topic post.

* even if predictable in "form", a good song remains a good song, imo.
