You know what? I never really cared much for The Breeders. LAST SPLASH and all that stuff. Despite some creative skewed pop stuff, I just always felt like their songs never grabbed me... they increasingly leaned towards "half written" or "non-written" songs that were interesting to a certain degree, but never could hold my attention for a whole album.

But this album... this album. Fuck. Where do I start with this album?

Well, there's really nothing else like it. It's got that famous Albini "sound" and that certainly adds to the appeal (very dry, almost produced like SPIDERLAND or something actually). But it's really all about the songs here. Completely twisted and bizarre in places, very minimal -- patient, but brilliant.

It's also a somewhat creepy album... it's also melodically brilliant.

I dunno, I've just always loved this one, maybe even more than the Pixies, definitely more than The Amps/Breeders other shit, and DEFINITELY more than any of Frank Black's stuff.

Even if you've been turned off by the Pixies or the Breeders or whatever before, this album is honestly a masterpiece.
