Has anyone ever been here? I might have a chance to go on a business-related trip. It is discretionary and I would have to pay for it, but it's fairly important to me in a personal and professional sense.

I don't want to sound ignorant but as an American (small) female travelling solo, I just want to know whether I'll feel safe and comfortable or not. I don't know anyone who's ever been to this region. Just looking on a map it is really close to the Middle East, but there is also no travel advisory listed on the US state department's website. I've never been afraid to venture forth to places like this before, but I'm pretty sure my husband won't be keen on me doing this trip and I sort of want to be prepared with "you've got nothing to worry about" if I really don't have anything to worry about. So, please, anyone who's been who wants to tell me that it's a lovely beach town and as long as I don't prance around in a bikini I'll be fine, tell me so. But if anyone else thinks it might not be the greatest time to go, tell me that as well. I'd be going the end of september.

Ignorant question number two: Is there an earthquake season the same way there's a hurricane season? I know this question is idiotic but since someone once said "there's no such thing as a stupid question" I'll ask it. Go easy on me
