Yeah, ditto. I feel very self-conscious eating alone. A book helps, but even then, I'm like conscious that I'm trying not to look self-conscious by reading a book while I eat. Plus then what are concentrating on--the food or your book, or even the battle over self-consciousness.

So sometimes I try to eat at my desk, and then go outside and take a walk or visit the record store.
