Chris L's recent thread upstairs looking for non-YT'd Sonic Youth vids got me to thinking about some of the older days of SYG... like Tesla brought up the Usenet alt.music.sonicyouth for instance. And I remember around the time NYCG&F came out and the SY site went up but not much was there at the time. And at that time the Paintbox FTP was still up and that's how I got to hear so many bsides and bootlegs back then.

(then was thinking about those pre-SY.com sites... Saucerlike, SonicTooth, Shouting Poetic Truths, evol.org, etc......)

I'm kind of fuzzy about the first incarnation of the official SYG board though. I know I had a diff name back then. And I remember talking at least to Chris L on that board.

But if you go upstairs and go to the last page of threads and just start reading Sonic threads from when the new board started up it's so interesting. Like a time capsule. Was right around the release of Rather Ripped and the s/t reissue.

I don't know. Wanted to start a thread just to talk about some of the earlier days of SY on the interwebs, some of our earlier days as a community here, maybe dig up some cool/interesting threads from wayback.

I don't know. Maybe the announcement of that Chicago 85 show and the idea of the band rolling out archival releases has gotten me in the mood to look back on my own history of following them. Let's get nostalgic y'all.
