I didn't necessarily think that either, but clearly its not overtly negative either. Music is what the listener makes of it as much as what the artist intends it to be. So if a religious person like myself can find meaning and substance in my life through a few carefully crafted words from Thurston's head, that works for me. Put it this way, whenever I was at a Sonic Youth show and that song came up and that verse was sung, I still chanted a loud chorus of, "JAH, Rastafari!" as if I were at a roots reggae show
