yeah, you are totally right. the show is a piece of capitalism and it is basically a really really brilliant story about capitalism at its most extreme and savage. the whole show is about this product that is extra special and that causes people to go crazy, kill and die for.

but we live in that world and that system and the reality of BB is pretty close to the reality of the drug trade. which happens. you can say that we should censor any representations of this from our culture to make us feel better or you can say we need to brutally depict these truths to people.

of course there will be idiots who dont get that its a show, or rather, who think that because its a show its giving some sort of green light to these things. who think that because its just a show, you can dip your toes into that world and the consequences will be derealized in some way.

the best you can say for BB is that its a very high quality drama for your sick society to produce about itself.

if BB was blatantly saying that you can be like walt and become a heroic badass who gets away with it and fuck the consequences, then it would be idiotic. It's very clear not saying that, its closer to an examination of the possible avenues people can go down. The realism of the show is that these avenues end in death and chaos, which is always what happens in reality.

i mean, if there WERE walter whites who get into that business and get through it without losing anything, without getting killed, and maintain a sort of civility, then the show would be justified in depicting them. but there ain't.

the only people who benefit from the meth trade in the end are the rich people who have zero connection to it apart from having the profits funneled to them for them to launder or scrub. maybe saul and IRL rich people and the cia and i assume republican party politicians.
