i didn't bring him up as a "surprise", i brought him up to counter your claim that "people aren't that stupid"

yes they are. we have a terrible educational system that values "self esteem" over truth and too many people lack critical thinking skills. so any idiot gets a free license to spout idiocies because everyone has the right to their wrong opinon. which is fine in private life but when it comes to politics... this is the result.

and i'm not talking only about people voting republican. democrats also make all sorts of offers that fall flat under minimal analysis. so the public with its short memory doesn't hold politicians (or the infotainment media) accountable for shit.
