In the documentary I referred to in the last post, it revealed that the original creators of Superman, (wiki links follow) Joe Shuster & Jerry Siegel in 1932 while both were growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, and sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (DC's first title & where the company gets its name) in 1938, (& only later to Action comics)...

I'll start over...
anyway, before Shuster & Siegel had a successful newspaper strip for Superman, they self-published a mimeographed comic called "The Reign of the Superman" that was all about a supervillian & had the overtones of Nietzsche's superman, the ubermensch or whatnot & this was all before Hitler became prominent. This was interesting to learn from that documentary since both Shuster & Seigel were sons of very poor Jewish immigrants. Anyway, they eventually re-tooled the character haha.
