this i already pointed at in my previous comment that we’re discussing POPULAR music.

this is shit we hear on the radio, on commercials, at parties, while fucking, after getting dumped, while celebrating, driving to places, drunk, hangover, sway in his bathtub, at train stations, when angry, while laughing, through a broken speaker, in smoke filled rooms, over traffic noise, while arguing with a partner, running or at a gym, i.e. in real life not in a special conservatory of precious preciousness.

any presumption that we must feel this music independent of the fabric of our lives is absurd.

sure there is a place for, i dont know, detached musicology, and analysis, and whatever. but this is not how popular music is experienced.
