The notion of one hand clapping is of course not mine. But that particular analogy is mine as far as I know (unless I was subconsciously inspired by something that I can't remember). It's a feeling I had a lot lately. People around me are not doing so fine right now. If I care about someone, I will of course try to console them. Thing is: I'm kind of not feeling so great right now either. And I feel like my attempts ring out hollow sometimes, even though they are ernest. Guess that was my way of reassuring my judgemental inner voice that I'm doing what I can right now. And yeah, go on, steal it. That's actually very flattering.
