i still don't get how this is considered their "masterpiece", most songs suck and the production is disgusting. the only good songs are:
-providence
-cross the breeze
-sprawl (the last two songs) because of the instrumental work at the end of each)
-candle
-the wonder
-total trash
silver rocket and eric's trip get special mentions because they are titanically amazing live, but the studio versions suck.
EDIT::actually, i know why it's considered their best album: it's their poppiest indie album, it's a double lp and critics jack off to it.
