I do have to agree with you there... I have trouble w/ Acid Mothers also... i have 3 of their cds and thats enough for me... as for Merzbow, i was quite the fan in the nineties. i have over a dozen cds of his but i lost interest in his sheetmetal-with-contact-microphone-o-shards sound since about the turn of the century. his early work is more satisfying to me (i.e. Baztzatoui w/ Memorial Gadgets 2xLP)

funny i've been listening to alot of older Borbetomagus lately...i love how you can turn that shit way up volume-wise and hear all of the overtones they create w/ their guitar amp overdriven sax blare.
