Wow, so this was pretty much the best night of my life. It started with me getting to Kool Haus around 4:15, and sitting for a bit. Eventually I met up with Pax from the board as well as his friend Chris, who were awesome. We were maybe 10th in line, and then we saw Lee arriving, so we went and I got my Washing Machine CD signed, although he seemed to be a bit rushed, he was really nice. As for the show..
The setlist started off with:
TEEN AGE RIOT (First time this tour)
Reena
Incinerate
the rest of the main set are going to be out of order:
from pre-RR:
Eric's Trip
Catholic Block
maybe one other old one I can't remember
from RR:
Do You Believe In Rapture
What A Waste
Jams Run Free
Rats
Turquoise Boy
The Neutral
Pink Steam
and then they closed the main set with Or
Encore 1:
The Neutral
THE WORLD LOOKS RED!!!!!!!!!
Encore 2:
Sleepin' Around
Shaking Hell
After the first encore, Lee called it one of the best shows he had done all summer.
I was second row, right between Kim and Lee, and when I get back to my place tomorrow night, I'll post all the pictures that Pax took throughout the show. The highlights for me were Eric's Trip, Catholic Block , Teen Age Riot (I heard them soundchecking it, but I was still really surprised to hear it, Lee and Thurston went nuts with their guitars in a little noise jam at the end), Jams Run Free (Kim is really good on this song live), and THE WORLD LOOKS RED, of course. For about 30 seconds I didn't recognize it, since I figured there was no chance in hell it would be played. But sure enough...
Wow, just an amazing show. Afterwards, me and Pax and Chris went and waited around by the tour bus with a whole lot of people. The security said they wouldn't be out for about an hour and a half, but we stuck around. Then they said the band had left, and then there were about 15 people left. We waited about another 20 minutes, and sure enough, Lee came out with some friends of his, and told us that he'd be back in a few minutes. After his friends left, he came over and talked to all of us, he was such a nice guy! He spoke again of how this was one of his favourite concerts all summer, and about how he loved the setlist and how they played stuff that hasn't been played yet this tour (Teen Age Riot and World Looks Red). He said it's been about 15 years since the last performance of World Looks Red! I got a picture with him, which I'll be sure to post tomorrow.
So overall, this was the best concert I've seen, and one of, if not the best night of my life. I can't wait til I see them with Flaming Lips and Ween on September 1, but I'm not sure wheather they could top this show.
I might most a bigger review tomorrow, but right now I can't be bothered.
Thank you Sonic Youth for being fucking incredible.
