I think it depends very much on the lady in question. It's tricky, because we're in a transitional stage where 'modern' ladies prefer the handshake as it shows equal respect but at the same time there are still many people with more 'old fashioned' values. I find it best to judge each meeting seperately, although a handshake is, I find, never taken the wrong way. The safer option.
