Diamanda Galas has been around since the early 80s. She has an incredible voice. She apparently has a 4 octave vocal range which was heavily influenced by a form of German Opera. Quite the set of lungs, a mix of deep satanic sounding low range moving to high-pitched shreiking stuff. The music itself ranges from chaotic goth-influenced, no wave-influenced, creepy circus music-influenced, twisted blues, and other styles. Pretty crazy stuff.

Diven Punishment is good record to start with. La Serpanta Canta is more recent record and has her doing very dark covers of some classic blues, jazz, and motown songs including "See that my grave is kept clean" and "I put a spell on you."

Let's see other "experimental" chicks that come to mind are:

16 Bitch Pile-up
Zeena Parkins
The Magick Markers (well 2/3 of Magick Markers)
Fe-mail
Cocorosie (aren't really hardcore experimental, but its good expansive shit)
Yoshimi from the Boredoms
Jessica Rylan
Ikue Mori
Leslie Keiffer

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot... because fuck there a lot of girls who like to make them some noise.
