the japanese releases are so expensive because costs here are very high.
not so sure about the american ones. i suppose they wanna make a certain amount of money so they demand a cerain amount of the profit. if they were in it for the money, they would just release more records because i know for sure that there are always a lot of people after the out of print records, and all they would need to do is a new pressing and they could make a bomb.
the packaging on the vinyl/cds doesnt only look expensive, they are expensive. the use the best materials and cost is not an issue when they are designing the record.
