yesterday i was at my local branch of the mediamarkt (supposedly europe's biggest retailer for consumer electronics) and they even sell sex toys now... vibrators, massive dildos, you name it. anything that has batteries in it; right next to other "typical women's products" like ladyshaves, weight scales and all kinds of fitness machines (treadmills, etc).

i've investigated on the matter and it apears even the largest record store chain in holland now sells sex products. i hadn't noticed yet, because i never go there. several drugstores now have them too. the marketing idea behind it is that there's a large market for women's sex toys, but that women aren't going to porn stores because they're grossed out by them. i suppose it's good that the taboo is wearing off now, but i can't really imagine many women buying a dildo while there neigbour's in the same checkout line with a bottle of shampoo and an aftershave. or people dropping by the record store for the latest justin timberlake cd and a pocket rocket.
