When I worked for Greenpeace at age 18 or so the very first person that donated anything was an attractive older lady. She gave me acheck for 60.00, but it was a total seduction thing going on because she was in a nightgown and she requested that I come in and insisted that I get a drink. So, she offered whatever I wanted, I had a Coca-Cola (I was a kid) and then she offered alcoholic beverages. I wanted one, and she didn't look bad either, but it was my first day on the job, so I didn't feel I could have a drink with her. She was the only person that was writing a check, and I didn't want to screw that up somehow in case I was reading her signals wrong. Add to all this that she was a complete stranger in (at the time) a strange city to me and that I was a bit scared as well.
I was living in Marietta and I would come into downtown to work and living with a girlfriend that my girlfriend in south Georgia thought was just a friend. The Marietta girl was cool with me keeping the other relationship too, so I already had two girlfriends at the time. This is the same girl by the way that was a waitress at Cracker Barrel and who had Confusion is Sex on cassette with which I introduced myself with to Sonic Youth one day while she was working and I had the day off. I had read an interview with Pete Buck previously where he descibed SY as being one of his favorite bands, but sometimes hit and miss.
I've had one girlfriend in Athens that also knew I was seeing someone else seriously and she would cool it down in public and we would usually see each other when my steady was visiting her family in Atlanta. And I had another girlfriend who liked girls, so that was fun. Of course, she was a psycho though.
