This is re-hash for those of us that know Kubrick, but...
Eyes Wide Shut was a bit of a vanity-project since Kubrick had intended to adapt the Traumnovelle ("Dream Story" by Schnitzler in 1926) novella for years and years.
His instincts told him it would not be an easy movie to make.
His financiers always wanted no part of it.
"What else you got, Stanley?"
All things considered, it's still a good movie, and as Kubrick's last (along with his preliminary work on A.I.) project, it's a must-see.
