i've been to your town once... and it doesn't surprise me at all that the locals are drinking a lot there. but there are also many similarly isolated mining towns in australia, so i wonder why the average would be higher in kalgoorlie.
anyway, i remember feeling glad to be in a "real" town after being on the nullarbor plain for days... the town itself didn't leave much of an impression on me, but i remember the main street and there being many brothels, the huge mining superpit and the ultra large trucks.
