If I understand you correctly, you're asking if we'll preserve our video/audio content for future use?
If so, sure. A good example of that is the dutch national archive. They have literally thousands of hours of film footage dating back to around 1905.
I heard from a friend that works there, that they're in a dilemma, when it comes to digitalizing all the celluloid that's stored in their vaults.
There's so much film, that even if they transfer what they have as quick as they possibly can, they'll still loose about a third.
It's very time consuming and the film is desintegrating right before their eyes, so to speak.
It's inevitable that a lot of important dutch history will be lost forever. Sad.
