I work at a Citi call center, and while a lot of the customer's make me want to turn in my headset and walk out of there, sometimes they are the only thing keeping me there. This is an example of the latter. This woman called in yesterday requesting a new gas card. This happens a lot, as the magnetic strips are always going bad on these things. Just to note the system, I asked what was wrong with the card.

Old lady: You know those 3 numbers on the back?

Me: Yes?

Old lady: What are those for?

Me: On some cards they do different things. On a gas card though you don't have to worry about it, they don't do anything.

Old lady: Yes I do have to worry about it. I want a new card with new numbers on the back, or I'm never using Citgo again.

(which, by the way, I couldn't care less, since I technically work for Citi, not Citgo. And even if I did, I still wouldn't really care.)

Me: Why?

Old lady: The numbers on the back are 666!

I had to mute the phone so I could laugh at her. I put her on hold so I could ask a manager about sending a new card. I knew I could of course, but I just had to tell somebody about it. Of course, they were cracking up too. They said to tell her that we can't guarantee new numbers, but they probably will be different. And if they are the same, it must be an omen.
