I simply think that he had a knack for writing good, short rock and roll songs. I don't usually spend my time thinking about his copycats. Clearly, Heroin & Co. are not good for you, and totally ruined his career. I'm not saying he's some sort of martyr, so get off your high horse, if you please. He wrote enough good songs in my opinion to warrant being a fan of his, and I like him even better solo than with the Dolls if I'm honest. I do think it's a shame he died, seeing as how he was quite young (maybe not for a junkie, but you understand what I'm saying). He might have thrown his life away, but I still find his music far more enjoyable than that of his peers.
