Actually, at the core of much of Judeo-Christianity, and especially Catholocism is the idea of Man having "dominion" over Nature. Not that it can't be good if they change their minds. Hell, the Catholics have opened up to the idea of evolution of late, which puts them oddly ahead of plenty of Protestants on the reality scale.
