I too have trouble with the apparent fact that the person in charge of this country honestly believes that The Independent is journalistically worse (worthier of scorn) than the Sun or the Mail or the Express.
Granted, I don't read the Indie as regularly as I used to, so I can't unequivocally defend it, but I do have a rather unfortunate level of access to the tabloids (people leave them everywhere), and it is genuinely quite shocking to me to hear that the Prime Minister believes the former is more damaging to the "spirit of the nation" than the execrable latter. No matter how far the Independent may have fallen in recent years, I find it very hard it believe that it is genuinely journalistically worse than The Sun, The Mail, The Express, The Mirror, etc.
But perhaps Tony doesn't read The Sun.
