i don't buy the whole "commandment" thing about out of step, it's pretty clear by the line "at least I can fucking think" that he is talking about himself.
in my eyes, i can't see how it's preachy, it's a response to people who try to get you to drink and get high; the lyrics are a little pompous, sure, but it's not preachy.
preachy, to me at least, is trying to convert others into your way of thinking. i don't see how straight edge, in my eyes and out of step are preachy, they are not saying "you have to do this", they are saying, "this is the way i do things"
now, stopping a song to talk about how uncool is drinking at shows IS preachy.
besides, it's only three songs that talk about "straight edge", they have some 7 times more songs that talk about different things
