Many, many years ago, until the day (in 1980 it was), that my skateboard flew into the path of an oncoming bread van in Croydon. I was not a happy bunny, and even less when my stepdad pointed out that it was my own bloody fault.
Also - when I lived in Milton Keynes in the late 70's, it was the thing to skate down a metal children's slide at maximum speed, especially when the slide was wet. I'm afraid I was far too much of a coward to attempt this

, also I broke my arm in the mid 70's in a "no hands on the handlebar" cycling accident, so I wasn't in a hurry to repeat that injury.
