Because we have Mothers Day on Mothering Sunday which was traditionally when people went to their 'mother church' for service during lent, not a celebration of Mothers at all. Later, Mothering Sunday became a day when servants etc were given a day off to vist their mothers or other family members and now it is treated the same as American Mothers day. Fathers day is a 20th century invention as is American Mothers day and both, like Valentines Day, are horrible, insincere shams that do nothing but line the pockets of greetings card companies. Love all that are close to you all year round.
