I think that his films are probably more enjoyable to foreign viewers. Gummo being a good example of that.
It shows something that we're not very familiar with overseas, when it comes to the setting and characters in a town such as Xenia, Ohio. Critics say that his films have more style than substance, which is true in a way.
I can understand your point of view though.
