I which I could afford to buy a ton of shitty guitars (I will... soon)... for one: I use a ton of tunings, having guitars for easch would be right on... two: even just for one song, it's awesome to have guitars that songs can be built around, or that you can just use for like one song (see: early SY guitars).
My explaining sucks tonight... sorry haha.

I kinda agree with you, i mean the SX is a decent company proabbly better and or more well known for making affordable electric bass guitars, a friend/bandmate has a shortscale bass by SX and its pretty sweet. but in most situation you shouldn't buy a guitar without "test driving it"... but for $150 and the way it looks its not really a bad deal even if it needs some work ie intontation adjustments (unless the neck is completely warped) i mean saving money to buy an expensive vintage jazzmaster in my mind is for those people who are in "working bands" the musician who just wants to tinker at home and is in a band that plays locally doesn't need to buy "$1000+ type" of guitars, i mean please go get a grip, unless you a friggin rich spoiled little brat... i always found it funny when i see kids that can't play but think they are and are handling a vintage jazzmaster thinking their shit don't stink... i always thought that the type of amp is a bit more important than the guitar unless the guitar has bad electronics or a warped neck. believe it or not there are a few Squires that are play better than some comparabale Fenders... as there are some Epiphones that play better than some comparable Gibsons.
