when i was about that age i read:
naked lunch
fear and loathing
various ginsberg books
a clockwork orange
etc...i don't think any of that shit is above 8th grade level. then again i remember some kids were still reading harry potter so it depends.
and i think they made us read of mice and men in school but i'm pretty sure i read the first page and tossed it aside.
