i found this bizarre at first, because coins are a pain. now we got used to them, but the problem is that they give impression of "few" money (its not!) and people spend them more easily, whereas that doesnt happen with paper money.

you can get $1 coins but they are the size of a dinner plate and weigh as much as a large grapefruit.
thing i like about europe is the history, we are more stylish, sophisticated and more accepting etc. oh and cheese.
