Ok, I'm sure the reason Carson gets the guests he does is because his budget is probably signifcantly less than that of the other shows; he can't afford Gwen Steffani, so he goes for Tegan and Sara instead.
Seriously though, I doubt somebody as affiliated with MTV and specifically TRL the way he was has the best taste in music.
And also, as far as Peacebone being their first single, it does seem that a lot of bands release one of their lesser songs as their first single. I guess the psychology behind it is that if you like that stuff, then you will LOVE the album, and instead of having a bunch of people buy your CD whether they like it or not, only those who will really enjoy it will buy it. That way you hear less criticism and have a stronger fan base. Well anyways, that's my guess
