Hello from the U.S,
so I made this post that bad mouthed Beijing and how it doesn't have any cool things going on blah blah, but i have been proven very wrong, and i should've done more research on it before i made my "conclusion". Despite that it's kind of hard to find what you're looking for on the web if it has to do with chinese venues, organizations, etc. you have to know how to search the web by searching references and such. and i'm not sure if its easier or not to get a website in english or chinese.
but anyway, here is a link to "That's Beijing" a premier cultural/arts resource for things happening in Beijing. I assume that it's pretty legit, I know that my school has copies of it in their international programs office, so i trust it.

for those of you in beijing, or are planning on going, there is a feature they have called "that's 7 days in beijing" which has info on films, electronic/dj music, free jazz, gutter punk, indie, and traditional mixed with rock type stuff, well at least for this week. but i think their listings are targeted to a more open minded audience.
what's also great is that it has a links page which contains websites of art spaces in the city as well as restaurants and bars and community orgs.

more later, but i am continually fascinated and surprised as well as excited by the stuff that is happening in my hometown. i guess i grew up really sheltered and when i would visit china i would always stay at my grandparents house which limited my experience there. well, i've got some issues to work out.
